"TO KNOW & BE KNOWN" - Youth Camp 2019
Updated: Feb 1, 2021
A tinge of excitement filled the air on 4th December 2019. 55 Campers, Camp Known Committee and leaders gathered at midnight in 2 bus loads to Tapah, Malaysia; with the first bus making a pit stop to pick up some friends from Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station.
DAY 1 - Thursday, 5th December 2019
We arrived at 7am and were warmly greeted by Mr. Dennis Lim (SUFES campsite manager). Campers fuelled up with breakfast, followed by a fun time of icebreaker and games such as ‘Captain’s Ball with a twist’. Our guest speaker, Mr Gabriel Jiang expressed “It is not remembering God during trials but God remembering us.” At sundown, 51 city dwellers began our trek getting closer to nature and hiking cautiously in a single file, through a small river for almost 2 hours. Though it was pitch dark, the spirit and teamwork from everyone was a “light” shining in darkness and the darkness could not overcome it.
DAY 2 - Friday, 6 December 2019
Gabriel Jiang expounded on Galatians 2:20 (NIV): “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” The key points discussed were (i) Having Christ (ii) Christ in Me. This was followed by a time of reflection by campers on their spiritual experience through the night hike. In the afternoon there was a line-up of mass games, ending on a high with “Dog and Bone” - filling the campsite with fun and laughter
DAY 3 - Saturday, 7 December 2019
Campers woke up to a day of adventure, as they trod 3 hours through a major stream, reaching a breathtakingly beautiful waterfall. Games were led by William Kimsha, who organized a mass “Monopoly Game of Life” which taught campers about being “Salt and Light” of the world instead of being abiders of world views. Fuji shared some words (i) Let Him In, (ii) Let Him Within, and (iii) Let Him Out. Turning to a time of ministry, God’s power was at work and campers witnessed a miracle healing of an injured fellow camper who was able to walk again! Sitting around the campfire, groups cheered their lungs out and bonded either through feasting over durians or watching the movie “Little Boy” into the night.
DAY 4 - Sunday, 8 December 2019
Mrs. Chai (SUFES chef) whipped up an amazing and delicious Malaysian favourite, Nasi Lemak. Upon filling their bellies, campers moved into a session of fellowship and reflection, to feed their souls. Then for the first time, it rained and poured heavily. We praised and thanked God for withholding the rain and showers of blessings till this, our final day. His presence and protection were evident throughout the camp, just as He led Moses and the people, with the pillar of clouds by day and the pillar of fire by night! What an amazing adventure, thanks be to God!
